Hudson sheriff’s officers net 59 in sweep, including 24 deadbeat dads who owe $335K in child support – NJ.com

Members of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office fanned out across the county and beyond in February to track down 59 people wanted on outstanding warrants, including a couple of deadbeat dads who owe a combined total of more than $140,000 in child support.

The sweep was the second of the year in the county, Sheriff Frank Schillari said. Of the 59 taken into custody, 35 arrests were related to criminal charges and 24 were related to non-payment of child support, officials said.

Schillari said Steven Rutzler, 45, of Kearny, was picked for owing $81,927, while Peter Adams, 54, Jersey City was picked up with a $58,699 child support tab. In all, the 24 people picked up for non-support are in arrears nearly $335,000 in child-support payments.

Some 13 people were picked on warrants related to theft, two for aggravated assault, one for criminal sexual conduct, five for burglary and seven for drug possession, Schillari said.
