Hudson County school board elections: One contested race, but three budget votes – NJ.com

Voters in three North Bergen, West New York and Weehawken will go to the polls next month in school board elections — and while two of the races are uncontested, district budgets for the 2022-23 school year are also on the ballot.

The three North Hudson school districts are among the 14 in the state that hold April elections. Election day is April 19. Polls are open 2 to 8 p.m.

There are six candidates for three 3-year seats in West New York. Incumbents Jonathan Castaneda, Ana Sanchez and Douglas Velasquez are running on the Your Children’s Future ticket. In North Bergen, the incumbents — President Luis Rabelo, Patricia Bartoli and Sai Rao — are running unopposed for three 3-year terms. Voters will decide on a $175,924,079 budget that comes with a 2% tax increase for property owners. The local tax levy would increase increase from $52.1 million to $53.1 million.

In Weehawken, Ildefonso Acosta, Marissa Dennis and incumbent Julian Brian Mera are running unopposed on Continue the Progress ticket. The proposed school budget of $35,240,891 is an 8% increase from the current spending plan. The proposal would increase the local tax levy by 2%, from $23.5 million to nearly $24 million.
