Holiday Fun in Maplewood Starts With Dickens Village – TAPinto.net

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A long-time annual tradition, Ricalton Square has been recast into Dickens Village for the holiday season.

Dickens Village — model homes to form the town setting of A Christmas Carol — delights visitors of all ages; events include refreshments, children’s activities, music, horse-drawn carriage rides, carolers. Also, on December 7 and 14, The Strollers will be caroling in Maplewood Village.

  • 1 p.m.   Santa arrives! And he’s escorted by the Maplewood Fire Department
  • 1 to 4 p.m.   Dickens Village houses open for viewing
  • 2 p.m.    Holiday reading for children at Words Bookstore
  • 2 p.m.    Choral presentation by Jefferson School students – 4th grade
  • 3 p.m.    Choral presentation by Jefferson School students – 5th grade
  • 4:30 p.m.    Tree lighting program, which includes the reading of A Christmas Carol by Dean Dafis, Holiday reading by Mayor Vic DeLuca, then the lighting of the tree

Saturday, Dec. 14

  • 8 a.m.    Breakfast with Santa at Cedar Ridge Cafe on Ridgewood Road
  • 9:30 a.m.    Breakfast with Santa at St. James Gate, Village Trattoria, and True Salvage Cafe
  • 1 to 4 p.m.  Dickens Village houses open for viewing, visit with Santa, Horse and wagon rides
  • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.  Jack’s Petting Farm
  • 2 p.m.    Maplewood’s own Swing Town Holiday Concert at the Burgdorff Center
  • 2  to 2:45 p.m.    Story hour reading by Maplewood Children’s Library

Sunday, Dec. 15

  • 3 p.m.    Maplewood Concert Band’s annual winter performance at The Woodland. Admission is free. Snow date: Dec. 18.

Saturday, Dec. 21

  • 1 to 4 p.m.   Dickens Village houses open for viewing, visit with Santa, horse and wagon rides.
  • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.   Jack’s Petting Farm
  • 2 to 3 p.m.   Craft and story program for children of all ages at Maplewood Memorial Library, Baker Street
