Hands-on sponsors make Newark family shelter more like home – NJ.com

Some day too soon, a mother and child who lost their home to economic hardship, domestic violence, a fire, or some other cruel and sudden reality will find refuge in Room 4 of a century-old townhouse on Grant Street in Newark.

The second-floor room is one of nine in a new emergency shelter for women with children that the Apostles’ House, a Newark-based non-profit, is scheduled to open this fall. The group will hold an open house at the new shelter on Thursday night.
