Governor Murphy Arrives in Montclair to Announce NJ Transit Improvement Plans – TAPinto.net

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Governor Murphy was in Montclair at the Bay Street Station on Monday to announce NJ Transit improvement plans and to sign an executive order.

During his visit, he highlighted the need for improvement to the NJ Transit system and expressed that he signed an executive order in an effort to improve NJ Transit transparency through enhanced reporting.

“In just a few minutes, I will sign an executive order requiring greater public transparency into the actual number of cancellations and delays that occur along NJ transit, as well as their causes,” Murphy announced.

During the press conference, Murphy stated, “All of us are committed to restoring NJ Transit as the nation’s preeminent mass transit system.”

In attendance, were many state and community leaders, including Kevin Corbitt, NJ Transit Executive Director, Department of Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, NJ Senator Loretta Weinberg, Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake, Assemblyman Tom Giblin, Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson, Councilor Sean Spiller, Freeholder President Brendan Gill and others.

Murphy stated that nearly 1400 commuters utilize the Bay Street Station each day.

He continued saying, “…our goal is to get them to where they need to be safely and on time.”

Murphy stated that he will not shy away from the challenge of turning around the system and looking into addressing the issues that have plagued commuters for years.
