Girls Soccer: Caldwell Upsets Montclair in Essex County Tournament Stunner

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Caldwell girls soccer team, seeded 14th, pulled off the shocker of the Essex County Tournament so far with a 1-0 upset victory over third-seeded Montclair on Thursday.

The only goal of the game came in the second half, when Emily Blankenship dribbled down the left wing and sent a cross to freshman striker Angela Nicol, who stuck a point blank shot past the keeper to give Caldwell (8-8) the lead.

Makenna Tahbaz turned away 25 shots in goal for the Chiefs, who held off Montclair’s relentless comeback attempt. Caldwell will travel to 11th-seeded Glen Ridge for the quarterfinal round on Saturday. Montclair is 10-4.
