MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Newark Academy broke away in the third quarter and went on to post a 41-28 girls basketball victory over Columbia on Thursday.

Kate Fishbone scored 13 points for Newark Academy (9-13), which outscored the Cougars, 15-4, in the third quarter to take a 34-23 lead.

Shana Desir finished with seven points for Columbia (12-9), which fell behind by six after a quarter but rallied back with a 13-7 second-quarter showing to forge a 19-19 halftime deadlock.
