Fulfill among those receiving aid thanks to NJ Senator’s Bill – wobm.com
Fulfill, formerly the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, is one of the food banks across New Jersey who will be benefitting from bi-partisan legislation Governor Murphy signed into law on Wednesday.
State Senator Steve Oroho (R-24) said in a statement that his bill, A-5405/S-3527, the governor signed will appropriate $10 million in federal CARES Act funds to support New Jersey food banks.
“I am pleased that this legislation was signed today. Each day, so many New Jersey families struggle to put food on the table, and unfortunately, the pandemic has only exacerbated this problem,” Oroho said in a statement. “The hunger crisis has led even more families to depend on food banks for their survival, and we need to do whatever we can to ensure those organizations can continue to support individuals and families in need.”
Here are all the organizations receiving funds as a result of this bill.
- Community Food Bank of New Jersey – $5,200,000
- Food Bank of South Jersey – $1,500,000
- Fulfill Monmouth & Ocean – $1,500,000
- Mercer Street Friends Food Bank – $1,100,000
- Norwescap – $300,000
- Southern Regional Food Distribution Center – $300,000
- Farmers Against Hunger – $100,000
Senator Oroho explains that $100,000 will also be allocated to the New Jersey Agricultural Society-Farmers Against Hunger Program for the collection and distribution of excess food from farms, markets, and other entities to organizations that provide food to individuals in need.
“Over 1.2 million people in this state now suffer from food insecurity, a staggering number that has increased substantially because of COVID-19,” Oroho said. “By lending a helping hand to large food banks, this law will help address the hunger crisis in New Jersey head-on.”
