Franklin Township: Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Blackwells Mills Road

SOMERSET, NJ – A Plainfield man died Saturday night from injuries sustained during a motorcycle crash on Blackwells Mills Road near Van Cleef Road, according to police. 

George Garrett, a 35-year-old man from Plainfield, was determined to be the victim, according to police. 

The Franklin Township Police Department received a 9-1-1 call on Nov. 10 at 11:37 pm reporting a crash in the area of Blackwells Mills Road near Van Cleef Road, according to Police.

Police say when they arrived at the scene a motorcyclist was discovered off the roadway unconscious and unresponsive.

The roadway was closed for several hours and an investigation was initiated by the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau, according to police. 

“The initial investigation revealed that George Garrett, 35 years old from Plainfield, NJ, was traveling eastbound on Blackwells Mills Road on a 1995 Harley Davidson motorcycle,” Lt. Phil Rizzo said in a statement. “The motorcycle left the roadway and crashed into a ditch on the southern side of the street. Garrett sustained numerous injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.” 

Police say the factors that contributed to the crash are currently under investigation.
