Four Essex County mayors consider joint COVID-19 shutdown | Video – NJ Spotlight

The coronavirus has been spreading so fast in Essex County that four mayors are considering drastic steps — among them, a one- to three-day shutdown, advising nonessential businesses to close and asking people to stay home. Essex County has the most COVID-19 cases of any in the state. Gov. Phil Murphy said he understands the mayors’ frustrations. “But I do have to reiterate, the executive orders at the state level are the executive orders that apply — period,” he said.

While the mayors consider joint action to try to put down the virus, Newark’s mayor is advising residents to stay at home for 10 days, Nov. 25 to Dec. 4, to combat rising positivity rates in the city. Senior Correspondent Brenda Flanagan reports.
