Federal Judge’s Husband Shot, Son Dies At No. Brunswick Home: PD – South Brunswick, NJ Patch

The husband and son of a federal judge were shot at their home in New Jersey on Sunday, and the 20-year-old son died, officials said.

Mark Anderl, 63, husband of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas, and their son, Daniel, were shot at their home in North Brunswick, officials said. Anderl was in critical condition.

“Judge Salas and her family are in our thoughts at this time as they cope with this senseless act,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement.

“This tragedy is our latest reminder that gun violence remains a crisis in our country and that our work to make every community safer isn’t done.”

The FBI said it was investigating the matter.

Anderl served as an assistant prosecutor in Essex County and now is prominent criminal defense attorney. Salas is the Newark-based federal judge who presided over the convictions of Real Housewives stars Joe and Teresa Giudice.

Law enforcement officials told NBC4 New York that a gunman shot Salas’s spouse and child at their North Brunswick home around 5 p.m. Sunday.

This is a developing story. Patch will have more information when it becomes available.
