Essex To Give First Doses Of Moderna Coronavirus Vaccine Saturday – Patch.com
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County on Saturday will dispense its first doses of the new Moderna vaccine against the coronavirus to health care workers.
County executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., this week announced the vaccines will be given starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the Essex County College Gymnasium.
The earliest doses of both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are to be given to health care workers, as required by the New Jersey Department of Health. After health workers are vaccinated, high-risk and elderly populations will be vaccinated, followed by food and agriculture workers and those in the transportation, education, childcare, energy, water, sanitation, law enforcement and government sectors.
The general population will be vaccinated following adults and others at high risk, the state announced previously.
Essex County College is one of five mass-vacation clinics slated to open soon in the county
Appointments are required for patients to get vaccinated and can be made by visiting www.EssexCOVID.org or calling 973-877-8456. Appointments only can be made after the County receives the vaccines.
“Very soon, vaccines for the Coronavirus will be available and, working in partnership with our 22 municipal mayors, health officers, public safety officials and emergency management personnel, we have developed a comprehensive plan to administer vaccines to Essex County residents,” DiVincenzo said.
“In addition to wearing a mask, washing our hands, social distancing and getting tested, we encourage residents to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by getting vaccinated. Our comprehensive plan provides vaccination centers that are convenient to all Essex County residents. We encourage everyone to get the vaccine,” he added.
