In Essex County, voters selected the Democratic and Republican candidates who will lock horns to replace Jones, an Irvington native who passed away while in office last January.

The candidate who will take over the remainder of Jones’ term will be decided in a special election this November.

Voters also picked Democratic and Republican candidates for the register of deeds and mortgages, who is responsible for overseeing the receipt, storage, retrieval and safeguarding of public records — including military discharge forms and all records relating to real estate occurring in Essex County.

Here are the early, unofficial results for both races as of 10 p.m. on Tuesday, via the Essex County Clerk’s Office.
