Essex County GOP Leader: Trump Is Right About Border Wall – Belleville, NJ Patch
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — “All they did was blah blah blah.” According to one of Essex County’s most visible GOP boosters, the response from “Democrats” and “socialists” in the wake of President Trump’s Tuesday speech was just more of the same old fluff.
On Jan. 9, the day after Trump made his case for building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border in a highly watched address to the nation, Nutley Town Commissioner Steven Rogers backed up the president’s claim that a border wall is a “national security issue.”

After Trump’s speech, Rogers – an ex-Air Force sergeant, police officer in Nutley and East Orange and lieutenant commander with the U.S. Navy Office of Naval Intelligence – posted the following statement of support on his Twitter page:
“President @realDonaldTrump was very clear last night. This is a national security issue! The Dem/socialists did not offer a solution. All they did was blah blah blah. Isn’t it interesting that both Pelosi & Schumer voted FOR a wall & barriers before Trump got elected. #KAG”
Rogers, a leader on President Trump’s 2020 Campaign Advisory Board who passed up a run at local reelection to fight for the #MAGA effort in New Jersey, also offered support for the president’s proposal in an interview with TRT World Now. (Watch video below)
“The president has been very consistent and has made it clear from day one that the wall must go up because of a national security crisis,” Rogers said. “The opioids coming into this country [are] overwhelming.”
Rogers’ support for Trump comes as many Democratic lawmakers in New Jersey present a unified front against the concept of building a border wall.
U.S. Rep. Albio Sires, who represents neighboring Belleville, called Trump a “fearmonger” and said that Tuesday’s speech was a “complete repudiation of American values, history and culture.”
Many experts have also questioned the accuracy of Trump’s statements that there is a crisis at the southern border.
