Essex County Deer Management Program Underway, Occurring Near Millburn – TAPinto.net

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The annual deer management program got underway this past Tuesday in two county reservations, the South Mountain Reservation and the Hilltop Reservation.

Throughout the months of January, February and March, Essex County will hold its annual Deer Management Program on Tuesdays in South Mountain Reservation and Thursdays in Hilltop Reservation.

South Mountain Reservation and all parking areas and walking paths inside the reservation will be closed to the public on Tuesdays, Jan. 14, 21 and 28 as well as Feb. 4, 11 and 18 during the deer cull.

Additionally, Hilltop Reservation will be closed on Thursdays, Jan. 16, 23 and 30 and Feb. 6, 13 and 20. The program will not be held in Eagle Rock Reservation this year.

The program is geared toward revitalizing the forest ecology by reducing the number of wild deer in the area.

Make up days are scheduled for Tuesdays, Feb. 25 and March 3 and Thursdays, Feb. 27 and March 5 if any previous dates are canceled.
