MONTCLAIR, NJ – On Sunday, December 6, 2020, Donald Shauger, executive vice president of The Shauger Group, was presented with the Giblin Association’s 2020 Community Service Award for Business.

Shauger’s honor was part of the Giblin Association’s 29th Annual Community Service Awards and Charity Breakfast. The event is held each year by the Giblin Association to recognize those who are committed to philanthropy and have made a lasting impact on the community.

“It was a true honor to receive the Giblin Association’s Community Service Award for Business,” said Shauger. “I am very touched by this gesture and am grateful to the Giblin Association and Assemblyman Thomas Giblin for selecting me. Congratulations as well to my fellow honorees for their well-deserved awards and their phenomenal work in the community.”

Shauger was presented with an assembly resolution from the Giblin Association and the State of New Jersey General Assembly, which read, in part, that this “prestigious accolade is being bestowed upon Donald R. Shauger Sr. in grateful recognition of his outstanding professional accomplishments and dedicated service to the community” and his “meritorious record of service, leadership, and commitment.”

The assembly resolution went on to say that, within “all the spheres of his life and work, Donald R. Shauger Sr. has created a model to emulate and has set a standard of excellence toward which others might strive” and that it “is altogether proper and fitting for the New Jersey General Assembly to acknowledge Donald R. Shauger Sr. and to praise him as an individual of strong character and uncommon determination.”

Shauger was one of six distinguished honorees recognized at the breakfast, which took place at Mayfair Farms in West Orange. Also acknowledged with community service awards were Kareem Adeem (Environment Award), Nicole Amos (Health Award), Chief Phyllis L. Bindi (Public Safety Award), Mary Noreen Cassels (Education Award), and Thomas J. McEnery (Heritage Award).

Six charitable organizations were also honored at the Community Service Awards Breakfast: the Cheer Me Up Foundation, which offers financial aid to sick, underprivileged children and helps them experience the joys of childhood despite medical, economic, and family hardships they may be facing; HOMECorp, an organization that assists with affordable housing; the Montclair Cobras, a nonprofit that helps North Jersey youth pursue the highest level of competition in football and cheerleading; Toni’s Kitchen, the food ministry of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Montclair, which provides the community with access to healthy meals along with financial, health, and counseling services; the Montclair Community Pre-K, a nationally recognized, accredited early childhood education program for Montclair Township preschool children; and the Montclair Volunteer Ambulance Unit.

The Giblin Association is an Essex County–based nonprofit civic organization, which was founded in 1954 by the late New Jersey state senator John J. Giblin. After Senator Giblin passed away in 1975, the Giblin Association continued running, with many members of the Giblin family serving in leadership positions in the nonprofit throughout the years. Senator Giblin’s grandson, Ted Giblin, has served as a past president and past chair of the organization’s Board of Governors; Thomas P. Giblin, Senator Giblin’s son and New Jersey’s 34th legislative district assemblyman, currently serves as the Giblin Association’s standard-bearer.

“This is a really prestigious honor, and I couldn’t be prouder of Don for the great work he’s done to earn it,” said Lisa Shauger, president/CEO of The Shauger Group. “Don has always shown himself to be a leader—someone who is concerned above all with the welfare of others. Don has never forgotten where he came from, and he makes it a point every day to say, ‘What else can I do to give back?’ He is so grateful to be receiving such a high honor from the Giblin Association and the State Assembly in recognition of his service efforts—the Giblin Association is a well-respected civic organization that supports educational, cultural, community, charitable, and social initiatives throughout the state, and Don is proud to be associated with them through this Community Service Award honor.”

For Shauger, it has been a year filled with many honors. Earlier this year, WomenRising, a nonprofit that aids women and children in need, named Donald and Lisa Shauger as the SUEZ Corporate Partner Award recipients at WomenRising’s Celebration of Service Gala. A few weeks later, Shauger was presented with the Newark Housing Authority Scholarship Foundation’s Appreciation Award at the foundation’s 12th Annual Golf Classic, in recognition of Shauger’s “commitment to supporting quality education for the City of Newark’s youth.”

In celebration of the holiday season and his Community Service Business Award, Shauger made a donation to the Giblin Association in memory of his mother, Laura Shauger.
