Daughters Heartfelt Note For Morris County Mom After Body Found – Jefferson, NJ Patch

MORRIS COUNTY – Crystal Sperry made life choices, the kinds of things that may have troubled people because of her tattoos and “physical appearance,” her daughter said.

But Angel Sperry said she has a message for anybody who questioned all of that after, she says, her Morris County mother’s body was found on Court Street in Newark.

“She is my mother, she is a sister, a daughter, a cousin, she is a grandmother,” Angel Sperry wrote on her GoFundMe page.

“I did not see her for what most people did,” she did. “I saw her for the heart I knew she had. I saw her for the loving, kind, caring and genuine person she was.”

Angel Sperry, grieving since she was told on Jan. 23 that her mother’s body was found, told Patch she has been raising money so her mother could have a funeral. Newark police confirmed finding a body on Court Street six days earlier, on Jan. 17, but referred comment to the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Angel’s GoFundMe page exceeded her goal of $2,000, prompting her to thank everybody for giving her mother the memorial she would have wanted.

“Words cannot express how happy I am to be able to give my mom the funeral she deserves!!!” she wrote.

Angel said she’s had to move quickly on memorial services since she was told by the medical examiner that “my mother’s remains could not be preserved for much longer past the 31st of this month.”

She also said she’s had to deal with her brother Chris, saying she’s arranged for him to be transported from prison to the funeral home. Angel did not disclose his prison information.

“He will be allowed to have a private visit with our mother. Unfortunately, he will be shackled, cuffed and accompanied by two or more officers without anyone else being allowed in the viewing, not even myself,” Angel said. “I ask that we send prayers his way for strength and guidance to be able to get through this.”

As the money for the funeral services arrived, Angel made sure people knew about her gratitude, and how her mother would have felt.

“My mom could have had NOTHING and STILL would give you the shirt off of her back or her very last dollar,” she wrote.

“That’s what counts, in my opinion. Character. Character shows a lot! I loved her soo unconditionally, even when it wasn’t so easy to, I did anyway,” she wrote.

Angel said her mom “always wanted to be better for her children. She did the best she could do.”

“She always apologized for her regrets and, in response to her apology, I made sure she knew she was SO loved. Despite anything we might have gone through, she was everything she could be for us! I never wanted her to feel bad, ever,” she said.

“She didn’t need to be perfect for us/me to love her. We didn’t need any apologies…. just her love.”
