CVS to offer COVID vaccines to children ages 12-15 starting Thursday, company says – NJ.com

CVS said it will start offering appointments and walk-ins for COVID vaccines for children aged 12 to 15 starting on Thursday, following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s approval of the Pfizer vaccine for that age group.

More than 170 CVS locations in New Jersey will be offering the vaccine for the 12 to 15 age group, the company said. CVS is offering walk-ins and appointments for adults at all of its 324 locations in the Garden State, but because only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for younger age groups, not every location will have doses for children.

Parental or legal guardian consent is required and children must be accompanied by an adult, CVS said, and the walk-ins will depend on vaccine availability.

“Patients are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at cvs.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app to ensure availability. Walk-ins are also accepted,” the company said in a statement. “The CVS scheduling tool will only display appointments at CVS Pharmacy locations that have the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine once the patient’s age is provided.”

As of late Wednesday afternoon, more than 7.7 million shots were administered in New Jersey. In the state, 3.5 million people have been fully vaccinated and 4.48 million people have received at least one dose, according to the state’s coronavirus vaccine dashboard.
