Crashes Reported Across Essex County As Snow Storm Mounts – Livingston, NJ Patch

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — As forecasters’ predictions of snow and ice across New Jersey came true on Thursday, another forecast also reared its ugly head: weather-related crashes.

Forecasters called for several inches of snow/rain and 55-mph winds on Nov. 15, which may create the potential for power outages and hazardous roads. (Read more about the forecast here)

Law enforcement officials in multiple Essex County towns warned drivers to beware as they hit the roads for the evening rush hours. “Everyone is requested to stay off the roads as they very treacherous,” Verona police advised Thursday afternoon.

The police warnings unfortunately proved to be on the nose; several crashes were reported across the county, via 511NJ.org. See the list below and check back for updates.

• “As of 2:09pm, there’s an Accident on I-280 westbound East of Exit 4 – Eisenhower Pkwy/CR 609 in Roseland. Right lane closed.”
• “As of 2:09pm, there are Delays on the New Jersey Turnpike – Western Spur in both directions from Southern Mixing Bowl in Newark to Northern Mixing Bowl in Ridgefield 45 miles per hour, due to maintenance salting activities.”
• “As of 2:31pm, there’s an Accident on the Garden State Parkway northbound Exit 144 – CR 510 in Irvington Twp. 1 lane blocked.”
• “As of 2:36pm, there’s an Accident on US 1&9 northbound ramp to NJ 21 in Newark. Ramp closed 10-15 minute delay.”
• “As of 2:44pm, there’s Icing on I-280 in both directions ramp to Exit 8 – CR 577 in West Orange Twp. Partial ramp blocked.”
• “As of 2:44pm, there are Delays on the New Jersey Turnpike inner and outer roadways southbound from South of Interchange 14 – I-78/US 1&9 in Newark to South of Interchange 13A – Newark Liberty International Airport/US 1&9 in Elizabeth 3 mile delay.”
• “As of 3:00pm, there’s an Accident on the Garden State Parkway southbound North of Exit 150 – Hoover Avenue in Nutley Twp. Right lane blocked.”
• “As of 3:05pm, there are Delays on the Garden State Parkway southbound from Exit 150 – Hoover Avenue in Bloomfield to Exit 140 – US 22/NJ 82 in Union Twp 10 mile delay, Motorists should anticipate delays and use caution due to current roadway conditions.”
• “As of 3:06pm, there are Delays on NJ 24 eastbound between Exit 7 – NJ 124/JFK Parkway in Millburn Twp and I-78 in Springfield Twp.”
• “As of 3:09pm, there are Delays on I-280 eastbound between Exit 12 – Garden State Parkway in East Orange and Exit 14W – Clifton Av in Newark.”
• “As of 3:12pm, there are Delays on I-78 westbound between New Jersey Turnpike Toll Plaza in Newark and Exit 52 – Garden State Parkway in Union Twp.”
• As of 3:13pm, there’s a Disabled tractor trailer on I-280 eastbound East of Exit 7 – Pleasant Valley Way/CR 636 in West Orange Twp. Right lane closed.
• “As of 3:18pm, there’s an Accident on I-280 westbound West of Exit 7 – Pleasant Valley Way/CR 636 in West Orange Twp. Left lane closed.”
• “As of 3:18pm, there are Delays on US 46 eastbound between CR 625/Hollywood Av in Fairfield Twp and NJ 3 in Clifton.”
• “As of 4:00pm, there’s Icing on I-280 westbound area of Exit 15 – NJ 21 in Newark. All lanes blocked 15-20 minute delay.”

• “As of 4:03pm, there’s Icing on I-280 eastbound area of Exit 8 – CR 577 in West Orange Twp. All lanes closed 20-25 minute delay.”
• “As of 4:04pm, there’s an Accident on the Garden State Parkway southbound North of Exit 148 – John F Kennedy Dr North in Bloomfield. All lanes open to traffic.”
