County Fishing Derbies Return to Newark this June – TAPinto.net
NEWARK, NJ — Newark residents will be able to bait their hooks and cast their lines into the water this summer as the Essex County Department of Parks gets set to host a series of fishing derbies.
Two of the county-sponsored derbies will be held in Newark at Branch Brook Park Prudential Grove and Weequahic Park Lake. The derbies are free and open to residents ages 15 and younger. All children must be accompanied by an adult and bring their own fishing pole, bait, bucket and chair.
Children are also encouraged to bring their own fishing poles. Prizes in various age categories for catching the first and most fish will be awarded at the conclusion of each derby.
“Our fishing derbies are an excellent opportunity for our children to enjoy the historic Essex County Park System in a different and fun way,” said Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo. “I invite everyone to come out, cast their lines, experience Essex and take a look at the improvements we are making to revitalize our parks.”
