Coronavirus closures: Updated list of N.J. school districts that are closing or changing schedules (Wednesday – NJ.com

An increasing number of schools districts across New Jersey are announcing early dismissals or closures for coronavirus related planning or cleaning, while several are shutting down because someone associated with the school was possibly exposed to COVID-19.

New Jersey health officials announced Tuesday that a 69-year-old Little Ferry with serious pre-existing medical conditions died after testing positive for coronavirus, the state’s first death related the illness. As of Tuesday, 15 people in New Jersey have tested positive for coronavirus. None are school children.

Officials said there are 20 coronavirus tests pending and another 31 potential cases under investigation.

Here are the latest school closings and early dismissals in New Jersey:

BERGEN COUNTY

• The Bergen County Technical Schools and Special Services School District are closing for all students starting Wednesday through Friday March 20. The county declared a state of emergency on Tuesday.

• Bergenfield schools will operate on an early dismissal schedule Friday.

• Bogota schools will hold a single session day for students on Thursday to prepare for potential school closures related to coronavirus.

• Dumont schools will have a half day on Friday to prepare for potential school closures related to coronavirus.

• Garfield schools will have an early dismissal on Thursday and Friday to prepare for school closures if they become necessary.

• Little Ferry schools will close at 12:30 p.m. on March 19, to plan with staff to continue education in case of a prolonged closure.

• Lyndhurst schools will close early on Thursday to plan for any possible closures in response to coronavirus.

• Mahwah schools will be closed Friday so staff can prepare a coronavirus plan.

• North Arlington schools are scheduled to close early on Thursday and Friday to continue planning and preparing for a potential school closure, the district’ superintendent announced.

The Frisch School, a private school in Paramus announced last week it be closed for several days after dozens of its students were potentially exposed to the coronavirus at a bat mitzvah in New York last month.

• Paramus schools are closed Wednesday on so faculty can receive needed comprehensive training in remote instruction.

• Ridgefield Park schools are be closed Wednesday to prepare for the possibility of home-based instruction for students.

BURLINGTON COUNTY

• Delran schools will operate on delayed opening schedule on Monday and Tuesday in order to plan for the possibility of the state asking the district to shut down due to coronavirus.

• Westampton schools l have an early dismissal on Thursday so teachers can make a coronavirus plan.

CAMDEN COUNTY

• Collingswood and Oaklyn schools will have an early dismissal Thursday and Friday for staff planning about a potential coronavirus closing.

Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees is closing at 12:05 p.m. on Thursday and Friday so staff can put together a coronavirus plan.

ESSEX COUNTY

• Cedar Grove schools have an early dismissal on Thursday so staff can develop plans in case students are required to work from home due to coronavirus.

• Fairfield schools will have a single-session day on Thursday to prepare for the potential of a school health-related closure.

• Millburn schools will be closed on Thursday so staff can prepare for the possibility of “distance learning” in case schools are forced to close.

• Montclair schools will be closed on Friday for professional development for staff if schools are required to close in the future. The district announced Monday that a staff member was being tested for coronavirus and was in self-quarantine at home until her laboratory results were returned.

HUDSON COUNTY

• Jersey City schools will close at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to begin to plan and coordinate with staff for potential satellite learning options.

MERCER COUNTY

• Trenton schools have canceled classes on Thursday for planning and Friday for cleaning.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY

Middlesex Borough schools are closed Friday to make coronavirus plans.

• South Brunswick schools are closed Wednesday because a student might have been exposed to coronavirus after two township residents attended a private party in Princeton with two people from Boston who later tested positive for the virus. There is no word on whether classes will resume Thursday.

MONMOUTH COUNTY

Keyport schools will have an early dismissal Thursday and Friday so staff members can make plans for a potential coronavirus closing.

• Little Silver schools canceled after school activities (excluding aftercare) this week for cleaning.

Red Bank Regional High School is closed Wednesday after the sibling of a student tested positive for coronavirus. The custodial staff will clean the schools.

PASSAIC COUNTY

• Wayne schools are closed Friday for an “extensive” cleaning of our buildings, district officials said.

SOMERSET COUNTY

Bridgewater-Raritan schools will have an early dismissal on Monday for coronavirus planning.

UNION COUNTY

• Cranford schools will be closed Monday as the district puts together its coronavirus plan.

• Elizabeth schools are closing at 12:15 p.m. on Monday for a staff in-service meeting on coronavirus.

• Roselle schools are closed Wednesday so that school and office buildings can be sanitized after the district learned that a staff member made contact with someone who was recently diagnosed with coronavirus. Depending on the test results, the district will operate on an early dismissal schedule on Friday for students only.

• Scotch Plains-Fanwood schools are closed Wednesday so staff can prepare if the coronavirus forces a long-term closure.

WARREN COUNTY

• Warren Hills Regional schools are closed Wednesday to develop coronavirus preparedness plans.
