Convicted killer from Bloomfield found guilty of sexually assaulting young girl – NorthJersey.com

Already in prison for murder, Roberto Grillo has been convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl for four years.

Grillo, a Bloomfield resident, was found guilty of six counts of endangering the welfare of a child, four counts of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of sexual assault, Kathy Carter, spokeswoman with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, announced on Thursday. 

During the trial, it was revealed that Grillo began sexually assaulting his victim in 2011 when she was 12 years old and continued to do so until she was 16. The assaults took place in several places in the area, including the McDonald’s parking lot in Belleville.

Carter said Grillo fled to Florida and attempted suicide when he found out he was wanted by police. He came back to New Jersey in March 2015 to face charges.

Grillo is already serving 55 years in state prison for killing Yolanda Vega, a 35-year-old woman from Rahway. The murder occurred in December 2015 and Grillo was convicted in December 2018.

The sentencing for the sexual assault is scheduled for March 27 and Grillo faces up to 105 years in prison. 

“The victim suffered years of torment at the hands of this defendant,” said Michael Morris, the assistant prosecutor who tried the case.
