When the current coronavirus epidemic broke out, the city had bought 1,600 cases and so far has provided almost 1,200 bottles of water for its seniors, needy families, and its homeless, officials said.
The city as of last week had more than 2,300 cases and more than 70 people die of COVID-19. Officials said residents have by and large stayed home and adhered to the stay-at-home orders, officials said.
Now the city, in recognition of the cooperation of its denizens, is providing the remaining cases of water to any of its residents, Mayor Hector Lora said.
“We know things are tough for all, especially in our community, and every little bit helps,” Lora said. “We have worked together to provide breakfast and lunch for all of our students and children in our city regardless of income, but there is so much more that we can and must do.”
The water was made available curbside to residents who wanted to stop between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Dignity House is located at the corner of Broadway and Linden Street.
