Child killed, several others hurt in Newark house blaze – NJ.com

A young child was killed Thursday in a fire that ripped through a home in Newark, authorities said.

“There’s one fatality – a young child,” said Kathy Carter, spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, which is investigating.

Carter said she had no other information on injuries and no details about the fire, which began about 4:45 a.m. on Astor Street.

Video from the scene showed heavy flames and smoke shooting from the home. Abc7ny.com reported four adults and three children were being treated for injuries.

There was no immediate cause for the blaze. Carter said more details would be released later Thursday.
