Car Burglaries Rise, As Unlocked Cars Present Easy Targets in New Providence
NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — During the last two months the borough has experienced a large number of motor vehicle burglaries and the theft of one car. All of the vehicles entered were unlocked and the vehicle that was stolen also had the key in it.
On Thursday, June 14, numerous motor vehicle burglaries occurred in the Northeast area of town on Woodbine Circle, Pittsford Way, Sherwood Drive, Newcomb Drive, Alden Road, Ashwood Road, Alden Road Pine Way and Elkwood Avenue. All vehicles were unlocked.
On Saturday, June 16, numerous motor vehicle burglaries occurred on the Southwest area of town on Hathaway Drive, Darby Court, Yarmouth Drive, Sagamore Road and Knollwood Drive. That same day, a vehicle was stolen from a residence on Colchester Road. All vehicles were unlocked and the vehicle that was stolen had the keys inside.
Police remind residents to be vigilant in locking vehicles and bringing the keys and valuables inside.
In other police news, New Providence Police reported:
5/17- Detective Joseph Parlapiano charged Josephine Shipps, 47, of Hopatcong with two counts of Bad Checks and two counts of Theft by Deception. The charges stemmed from investigations into incidents that occurred at local businesses.
5/21- A burglary to a residence on Southgate Rd was reported to have occurred between May 18 and 21. Entry was made by forcing open a door in the rear of the residence. Anyone with any information, is asked to contact Detective Michael Scuorzo.
5/24- Patrolman Nicholas Guerriero arrested Aaron Hale, 31, of North Brunswick for Driving While Intoxicated, Careless Driving and Failure to Maintain Lane. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on South Street. Mr. Hale was released pending a future court appearance.
5/26- Patrolman Nicholas Guerriero arrested William Glancey, 48, of Dunellen for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident and Failure to Signal Turn. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Mountain Avenue. Mr. Glancey was released pending a future court appearance.
5/30- Patrolman Andrew Lynch arrested Rubens Neto, 40, of Newark for Possession of Marijuana 50g or less and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Springfield Avenue. Mr. Neto was released pending a future court appearance.
6/1- A residence on Newcomb Drive was burglarized between the hours of 6:30 and 9:15 p.m. on June 1. Entry was gained by forcing open a door in the rear of the house. Anyone with any information, is asked to contact Detective Michael Hand.
6/3- Patrolman Mark Pawelek arrested Michael Prill, 24, of Chatham for Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Driving. The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Springfield Avenue. Mr. Prill was released pending a future court appearance.
6/6- Corporal Andrew Diamond arrested Bridget Rissmiller, 40, of Chatham for Driving While intoxicated, two counts of Driving While Intoxicated in a School Zone, two counts of Reckless Driving, two counts of Careless Driving, two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, two counts of Failure to Report an Accident, two counts of Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Stop. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into two hit and run crashes on Pearl Street. Mrs. Rissmiller was released pending a future court appearance.
6/21- Patrolman Christian Cely arrested Drew James, 22, of Summit and Cristian Ramirez-Vera, 19, of Summit for Possession of Marijuana over 50g, Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The arrests stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Division Avenue. Both were released pending future court dates.
6/26- Patrolman David Rodriguez arrested Luis Olmo, 28, of Newark for Possession of Marijuana 50g or less and possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest stemmed from motor vehicle stop on Ryder Way. Mr. Olmo was released pending a future court date.
7/1- Patrolman Christian Cely arrested Kevin Rodgers, 46, of Newark on active child support warrants out of Essex County. The arrests stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Gales Drive. Mr. Rodgers was transported to the Essex County Jail.
