PATERSON, NJ —  Isaiah Hill scored 18 points to lead four scorers in double figures for the Union Catholic boys basketball team when the Vikings rolled to a 74-24 victory over Hoboken Charter in the opening round of the Paterson Charter Holiday Tournament on Thursday in Paterson.

With the victory, the defending champion Vikings, now 2-1 on the season, advanced to meet Passaic in Saturday’s semifinals at 5:40 p.m. Passaic advanced by defeating North Bergen, 76-71.

UC, which led 14-9 after the first quarter,blew the game apart by outscoring Hoboken Charter (1-1) in the second quarter, 26-9, to open a 40-18 halftime lead.

The Vikings kept rolling in the second half with a remarkable 26-0 run in the third quarter to extend their lead to 66-18.

Several players contributed to the victory for the Vikings.

Hill, a junior forward, led all scorers with his 18 points and also came up with four of UC’s 20 steals in the game.

Junior guard Elijah Barlow had another strong all-round game with 14 points, five assists, and five steals. AJ Sepulveda scored a career-high 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Matt Tracey added 10 points for UC. Bradley Young had six rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals to go with his five points. Caleb Reed hauled down a team-high seven rebounds for the Vikings.
