Bloomfield To Hold Extra Day Of Free Coronavirus Testing – Bloomfield, NJ Patch

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield Health Department will hold an extra day of free coronavirus testing for residents to slow the spread of COVID-19.

After a previously announced testing event filled all of its available slots, Bloomfield officials organized a follow-up session, which will take place from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3 in the township parking lot at 1 Municipal Plaza.

According to a township news release, Bloomfield residents interested in getting tested should call 973-680-4057 to make an appointment. The township is especially encouraging teachers, janitors, aides and those working directly with the public to be tested. Testing will be conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“We have worked diligently from the beginning of this crisis to keep our families healthy and safe while slowing down the spread of COVID-19 in our community,” Mayor Michael Venezia said.

“The reception for our previous testing days has been overwhelming therefore, we will continue to offer free testing to residents as long as there is demand for us to do so,” Venezia said.

As of Wednesday, Bloomfield has seen 1,155 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 68 deaths linked to the disease, according to Essex County officials.

The township has a population of 49,973, according to the most recent estimate from the U.S. Census.
