Bloomfield Man Gave Child Sleeping Meds Before Sex Assault: MCPO – Bloomfield, NJ Patch

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A Bloomfield man who pleaded guilty to committing sexual assault on a child in Long Branch was sentenced to 25 years in New Jersey state prison last week, prosecutors announced.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Jaime Mauricio Leon, 34, of Bloomfield, was sentenced on Aug. 2.

Leon was arrested at his place of employment in Fort Lee on June 23, 2017. He pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated sexual assault and possession of child pornography on April 17.

The assault took place in Long Branch on June 15 and 16 in 2017.

Prosecutors said a witness told Long Branch police officers that he looked into a bedroom window at a local home and saw a man and a woman “committing sexual acts” on a minor. The witness provided police with evidence of the assault.

A police investigation revealed the couple gave the child sleeping medication prior to the assault, prosecutors said.

After conducting a joint investigation, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Long Branch Police Department identified the male suspect as Leon. Police also determined that the female suspect – who was unnamed in a press statement – knew the child.

Charges are “still pending” against the female suspect, prosecutors said last week.

During his plea, Leon admitted that he and his female accomplice planned the attack on the child via text message. He also confirmed he possessed sexually explicit images and a video of the child that the woman had sent to him the day before the assault, prosecutors said.

The text messages, images and video were recovered from their phones, authorities stated.

Prosecutors said Leon is required to serve the full 25-year term without the possibility of parole pursuant to the Jessica Lunsford Act. Upon release, he will be required to register under Megan’s Law and he will be placed on parole supervision for life.
