NEWARK, NJ – A 29 year old Belleville man is being held in Essex County jail following accusations of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Nutley. According to the Essex County Prosecutors Office, the accused worked as a youth basketball coach at Good Shepherd Academy in Nutley in the past.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced on Thursday that Kevin Jimenez was charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, three counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the Essex County Prosecutors Office, Jimenez is a girls’ basketball coach affiliated with The Wolves, an Amateur Athletics Union (AAU) team. The sexual assault that lead to his arrest took place in Nutley this year.

The Wolves, a team which includes girls from throughout the region, also practiced at the Abundant Life Academy in Nutley and Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange.

Jimenez’ next court appearance is June 15. The investigation is active and ongoing.

The Essex County Prosecutors Office stressed that these are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
