Atlantic Health System Showcases New Ambulance, Medical Supply Station in Newton – TAPinto.net
NEWTON, NJ – Atlantic Health System recently marked the opening of its newly built facility in Newton, which will serve as the new northern station of Atlantic Mobile Health, its transportation division, as well as AtHome Medical, which provides in-home medical equipment and supplies.
The new building, located directly across High Street from Newton Medical Center, gives Atlantic Health System its own facility for both services, allowing its team members to more easily access and operate its resources and able to more readily put them in use to serve the community.
Atlantic Mobile Health, which includes the entire medical transportation fleet of Atlantic Ambulance, and AtHome Medical, were both previously housed in separate, leased locations – an ambulance station on Diller Avenue in Newton, and the At-Home Medical distribution center in Lafayette.
The new building measures 12,000 square feet and cost approximately $2.8 million to build. Construction was performed by Beacon Construction Services.
“Bringing both of these services into a bigger, more adaptable building of our own design gives us the freedom and additional capabilities to more easily respond to the needs of the Sussex County community,” said David Ferguson, director of Atlantic Mobile Health and AtHome Medical.
The new station features three large vehicle bays, which can house up to 12 ambulances. Atlantic Mobile Health plans to station six ambulances and two wheelchair vans, as well as two Atlantic Health Courier vehicles there.
The overall site offers far more space for the organization compared to its prior location. One notable improvement of the new site will be the ample parking around the building which was not available at the former location, and sometimes led to logistical challenges for personnel.
Another major upgrade is that the new site will also house part of Atlantic Health System’s motor services division, which will allow vehicles stationed in Newton to be serviced on-site instead of travelling to Atlantic Mobile Health’s main station in Livingston, nearly 40 miles away. The courtesy shuttle at Newton Medical Center can now also be serviced at the Newton site, saving the same trip.
The new building will also allow AtHome Medical to continue to grow. The service currently supplies 4,500 household oxygen systems and touches 30,000 lives each year throughout Atlantic Health System’s service area.
The event on Tuesday was attended by several local dignitaries from Sussex County. Assemblyman Hal Wirths and Senator Steve Oroho shared compliments for the new facility at the event. A representative of Congressman Josh Gottheimer’s office, Cheryl Krouse presented David Ferguson with proclamations lauding the facility as well. Kimberly Williams, Community Development Director for the Town of Newton, representing Newton Town Manager, Tom Russo, was also in attendance, along with Newton Police Chief Michael Richards.
Members of local EMS squads from Sussex County were also on-hand to tour the facility afterwards.
