Asbury Park man faces 20-years for stabbing near high school – wobm.com

An Asbury Park man could spend between 5 and 10 years in prison upon sentencing after he was indicted today for a stabbing that occurred on March 9 outside Asbury Park High School, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey announced on Wednesday.

Jadon Carter, 20, was charged then indicted on one count of first degree attempted murder, two counts of second degree aggravated assault, one count of third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Asbury Park Police were first on the scene on March 9 around 3:40 p.m. following a report that came in about a fight near the high school.

Officers arrived on scene and found one man, one male youth, ages 17 and 18, suffering from stab wounds.

Police also saw Carter at the scene of the crime.

He was brought back with them to headquarters where he was charged in connection with the incident.

Both victims were hospitalized as a result of their injuries and were later released from care.

If convicted of Attempted Murder, Carter faces up to 20 years in a New Jersey state prison on each charge, subject to the provisions of the “No Early Release Act” which means he has to serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for release on parole.

Carter would also be under parole supervision for five years following his release from state prison.

The second degree charges carry a state prison sentence of five to ten years.

If convicted of the fourth degree charge, Carter faces a potential sentence of up to 18 months in state prison.

The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Sarah M. Mielke.

Carter is represented by Josh Hood, Esq., of Freehold.
