MONTCLAIR, NJ — A man who recently attended Montclair High School was allegedly at January’s riot at the U.S. Capitol building, although he wasn’t accused of taking part in any violence, reports say.

Elias Irizarry, 19, is currently a freshman at the Citadel, a military college in Charleston, South Carolina. He was chairman of the Essex County Teenage Republicans when he attended high school in Montclair; it wasn’t immediately clear if Irizarry graduated from that school.

He is reportedly the son of actor Vincent Irizarry, who appeared in “All My Children” and “Guiding Light.”

According to the criminal complaint, Irizarry was captured in photos and videos entering the building along with another South Carolina resident, Elliot Bishai, 20. (See below)

The pair allegedly climbed through a broken window and walked through the corridors of the Capitol. Irizarry was seen carrying a “long, cylindrical object” in his hand, the complaint states.

Irizarry and Bishai have been charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, knowingly engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct in any restricted buildings or grounds, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

They were released on $25,000 bond after a federal court hearing on Tuesday in Washington D.C.

After the hearing, Irizarry’s mother, Lorraine, and Bishai’s father said their sons didn’t expect the event to turn violent, and were swept up in the chaos of the riot, The Post and Courier reported.

“When you hear them say things about your child like that, and he’s put in with others that did so wrong, it’s hard,” Lorraine Irizarry said.
