Coronavirus in N.J.: What’s reopening, what concerts, festivals and shows are rescheduled, canceled. (Sept. 1 – NJ.com
A trio of noteworthy stage productions — one live and two online — highlight the theatrical offerings throughout the state this week:
♦ “Josephine: A Burlesque Cabaret Dream Play,” a one-woman musical biography about the iconic Josephine Baker, will be performed outside on the Morris Museum’s back deck 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and Friday, Sept. 18.
Tymisha Harris, who created the play with Michael Marinaccio and Tod Kimbro, portrays the glamorous African-American performer who became an international star after moving to Europe in the 1920s. In addition to being a flamboyant, intoxicating stage presence and film star, Baker carved an intriguing personal life: She had several interracial marriages and homosexual relationships; performed in men’s clothing before the term “drag” was commonly used; was a spy for the French Resistance in WWII, a civil rights activist and mother to 12 adopted children.

The piece, directed by James Glossman and produced in collaboration with Project Y, will be available for viewing on Zoom through Sunday, Sept. 20. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online here.
♦ Summit-based Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre will host an online reading of Laura Ekstrand’s “A Certain Age” 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
