Nutley Remembers September 11 at Annual Ceremony in Monument Park at Town Hall – TAPinto.net

NUTLEY, NJ – Residents gathered in Monument Park at Town Hall to remember and honor those lost on September 11, 2001. The ceremony was under gray skies, a marked contrast to the sunny skies of Sept. 11, 2001. 

Those gathered were welcomed by Commissioner of Public Safety Alphonse Petracco who led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Mauro Tucci then spoke to the crowd. An invocation was led by Fr. Tom Nicastro of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.

Rev. Audrey Hasselbrook read the names of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001. 19 years ago today, three Nutley residents, Lt. Robert Cirri, Frank LaLama, and Dorota Kopiscko, lost their lives when terrorists flew domestic airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.

The reading of names was followed by a moment of silence and ringing of the bell at the Township of Nutley Firefighters Memorial, one strike for each of the three residents lost. 

Rev. David LeDuc of Vincent United Methodist Church led the closing prayer.

The Township of Nutley has held a 911 ceremony every year at 10 a.m. on Sept. 11 since Sept. 11, 2002.
