Kitten In Dryer, Other Animal Cruelty Reported In North Jersey – Newark, NJ Patch

NEWARK, NJ — Shelter staff are seeking the people responsible for a recent series of animal cruelty cases in North Jersey. Incidents included a kitten found inside a running dryer, another kitten thrown from a moving vehicle and a cat abandoned behind a dumpster.

The Associated Humane Societies (AHS)/Popcorn Park Shelter is offering a $1,000 reward to motivate the public to come forward with tips.

Each of the abused animals was brought to the shelter’s Newark facility, the AHS stated.

“We ask that you share their stories in an attempt to find and hold those responsible for the cruelty inflicted upon these defenseless creatures,” the shelter stated. “We are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions of the perpetrators in these cases … Please call 973-824-7080 with any information.”

AHS staff released the following details about each incident:

KITTEN IN DRYER – “On the evening of Friday, Aug. 28, a 5-month-old female kitten was found inside in a running dryer at a laundromat in Linden. Thankfully, she was found before she burned to death. She sustained burns to her fur and is currently being treated for eye and ear infections as well. She is resting comfortably and expected to make a full recovery.”

THROWN FROM CAR – “On Saturday, Aug. 29, a motorist traveling through Newark witnessed someone throw something wrapped in a plastic bag from a moving vehicle. A 12-week-old kitten was wrapped tightly in the plastic bag, and we’re grateful that the witness pulled over to rescue him. He was given a complete medical exam and miraculously, he did not suffer any serious injuries.”

ABANDONED BEHIND DUMPSTER – “On Sunday, Aug. 30, a cat was abandoned behind the dumpster at our Newark facility. The one-year-old male cat had a plastic bag wrapped around his front left leg. Removal of the bag revealed a severely infected and necrotic forelimb. He is now on antibiotics, pain medication, and is awaiting amputation.”
