LINDEN, NJ – The City of Linden is mourning the loss of Jayanna Rosechelle Francois, a Linden student who was discovered dead earlier this month in the lake at Warinanco Park in Roselle.
Mayor Derek Armstead confirmed the death of Francois and provided details for the funeral arrangements for the student on his Facebook page on Thursday.
“It is with deep sadness as your Mayor that I must announce the tragic death of 14 year old, McManus Middle School student, Jayanna Rochelle Francois,” said Armstead’s post.
The services were held on Saturday at Holy Mountain Church and the burial was at Rosedale Cemetery.
“The sudden, unexpected death of a child has to be the most painful tragedy a parent will ever experience,” the post by Armstead states. “I reassured the family that the Linden community we will stand with them and comfort them.”
The incident involving the death of Francois is still being investigated by Union County Police Detectives and the Union County Medical Examiner’s Office. According to Armstead, “It is not being investigated as a suspicious death.”
A GoFundMe page was created by the Francois family and donations are still being accepted to assist the family with funeral costs during this difficult time.
Anyone wishing to send condolences or donations to the Francois family can send it to: Bayard and Rachel Francois, 1101 Essex Avenue, 1st Floor, Linden New Jersey 07036.
