Sussex County COVID-19 July 20 – TAPinto.net

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ –Sussex County Division of Health officials announced there were 12 additional cases since July 17 but no additional coronavirus related deaths on July 20. 

There are now 1297 cases of COVID-19 in the county, 195 deaths and 1087 recovered coronavirus patients as of July 20.

Governor Murphy announced parents of New Jersey public school children would be given the opportunity to have their students receive instruction remotely when schools open in the fall.  He said this option would only be for students, not teachers or other staff members.  Murphy said that option is expected to reduce the numbers of students in the school buildings, making social distancing easier.

The National Football League Giants and Jets said they will play their season at MetLife Stadium without fans, until further notice. The teams said Murphy had included the Meadowlands Sports Complex in his order limiting capacity at outdoor gatherings.  Their training camps will not be open to the public this year.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard there were 13,741 deaths, seven added since yesterday and 176,963 confirmed positive coronavirus cases with a mortality rate of 7.76%.  The dashboard 1,791,137 New Jersey residents been tested as of July 20.

Bergen County continues to have the highest number of positive tests in the state with 20,034 coronavirus patients adding one since yesterday and 1,765 deaths. Hudson County is reporting 19,263 positive tests and 1,313 deaths.  with no additional reported deaths. 

Essex County is reporting the highest COVID-19 death toll with 1,838 coronavirus related deaths and 19,121 positive test results.  The three New Jersey counties with the highest number of cases and deaths reported no additional deaths on July 20.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard, the four counties with the fewest number of reported cases and coronavirus related deaths are Cape May County, Salem County, Hunterdon County and Sussex County, as of July 20.

According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus resource center, The United States currently has 3,825,153 confirmed cases and 140,957 coronavirus deaths, with a mortality rate of 3.68%, down from 3.73% on Thursday. As of July 20, New York City continues to report the highest number of coronavirus related deaths with a reported 32,506.

Testing is available in at CVS in Sparta.  

New Jersey Department of Human Services has launched a hotline for residents who need help coping with stress and anxiety during the health crisis.  The hotline is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week- 866-202-4357.

St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson is also providing a free helpline for hearing impaired Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 973-870-0677.
