3 In Belleville Family Die Of Coronavirus, 10 Days Apart: Murphy – Yahoo News
BELLEVILLE, NJ — Three family members from Belleville who died within 10 days of each other are some of the most recent victims of the coronavirus crisis, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Friday.
During a news conference, Murphy said that Luis and Libia Urgiles, and their son, Luis Marcelo, passed away from COVID-19 complications.
According to Murphy, the Urgiles were immigrants from Ecuador who proudly called the United States home for nearly 40 years. The couple had nine children – six daughters and three sons, including Luis, who they affectionately called “Mashi.”
“They both enjoyed traveling back to Ecuador to visit family, and spending time with their children, 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren,” Murphy tweeted. “They taught their children to never lose faith.”
Their son, Luis, was just 17-years-old when the family arrived in Belleville, Murphy stated.
“He was hard-working, humble, and a loving family man,” the governor said. “He was a man of faith, and a man always willing to lend a hand to friends and family. He was devoted to his wife, his three children, and his grandson.
Murphy tweeted:
“Luis, Libia, and Mashi all passed within 10 days of each other. We offer our deepest condolences to the Urgiles family. One family should never endure such a loss in such a short period of time. May God bless Luis, Libia, and Mashi.”
As of Friday, Belleville has seen 987 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 60 deaths linked to the disease, according to the latest count from Essex County officials. It wasn’t immediately clear if the Urgiles were among that total.
Murphy said Friday that another 37 New Jersey residents have died from COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 12,835.
“Even with the continuously dropping numbers of new cases, we still are a Top 5 state in terms of overall hospitalizations and deaths,” the governor wrote. “THIS is why we ALL must keep up with social distancing.”
