SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – Sussex County Department of Health reported no additional coronavirus patients in Sussex County and one additional Sussex County resident lost her life to COVID-19 as of May 21.
An 58-year-old woman from Andover died due to coronavirus.
County officials announced the total number of coronavirus patients in Sussex County are now 1074. They announced 869 patients have recovered and 141 have died.
The New Jersey State Police is warning people perpetrating fraud claiming to be contact tracers, contacting people by text. The state police warn contact tracers will not ask for social security numbers, bank or credit card number of insurance information over the phone.
The New Jersey Republican Party, with four small business owners, has filed a lawsuit against Governor Murphy. The suit claims the governor’s executive orders naming essential and non-essential businesses created “arbitrary and capricious classes of employers and employees.” They claim Murphy’s executive orders disproportionately impacted small businesses when big box stores were allowed to stay open.
The New Jersey Health Commissioner said there are now 19 confirmed cases of children ages one through 18 showing signs of Kawasaki disease, four new cases since Wednesday and seven in the last two days. While six remain hospitalized, there have been no deaths. Fourteen of the children have tested positive for coronavirus.

The New Jersey COVID-19 dashboard reports as of May 21 more than 10,000 have died from COVID-19. There have been a total of total 544,274 tests reported; 151,472 positive tests and 10,843 deaths, related to coronavirus, representing a 7.15 % mortality rate.
Hudson County has the highest number of positive tests in the state with 17,814 coronavirus patients and 1,121 deaths. Bergen County is reporting 17,583 positive tests and 1,508 deaths.
Essex County is reporting the highest COVID-19 death toll with 1,576 victims and 16,906 patients.
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus resource center, The United States currently has 1,577,140 confirmed cases and 94,702 coronavirus deaths. New York City has reported 28,743 COVID-19 related deaths.
Sussex County Administrator Gregory Poff announced the drive through testing sight at Sussex County Community College opened on May 11. People must have a prescription and be showing symptoms to be able to get an appointment. The test is a Nasopharyngeal swab test, according to the county. This site does not offer antibody testing, even if the resident has a prescription.

New Jersey Department of Human Services has launched a hotline for residents who need help coping with stress and anxiety during the health crisis. The hotline is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week- 866-202-4357.
St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson is also providing a free helpline for hearing impaired Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 973-870-0677.
