Archbishop of Newark to live stream reconsecration of nation to Mary, Mother of the Church, on Friday – NJ.com

The Archbishop of Newark, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, will join with U.S. and Canadian bishops for a live stream service of the reconsecration of the nation to Our Lady under the title of Mary, Mother of the Church, on Friday at 3 p.m.

The Archdiocese of Newark encompasses all of the Catholic parishes and schools in the counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union.

Cardinal Tobin will be participating in the service from the Lady Chapel of the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, where he will lead a brief bilingual liturgy with the prayer of reconsecration.

In a reflection posted on the archdiocesan website on Saturday, Cardinal Tobin urged worshippers to “turn to Mary in both good times and troubled times.”

“As Mother of Perpetual Help, she is always ready to assist us, always there for us, constantly prepared to seek her Son’s guidance and support for all her children,” Cardinal Tobin said. “Especially in times of grave danger, such as the current pandemic, Mary offers hope, healing and comfort to all who are in need of her maternal care.”

While each year the Catholic Church seeks the special intercession of the Mother of God in May, her assistance is sought “all the more earnestly” this year due to the coronavirus pandemic that has swept the globe, according to Los Angeles Archbishop José H. Gomez, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

“This will give the Church the occasion to pray for Our Lady’s continued protection of the vulnerable, healing of the unwell, and wisdom for those who work to cure this terrible virus,” Archbishop Gomez said in a letter to the U.S. Bishops.

For more information about the prayer service, worshippers can visit the Archdiocese of Newark’s website.

The Archdiocese of Newark regularly live streams Mass services with Cardinal Tobin on Sundays at noon, and offers a guide to find streaming services for parishes in its area.
