MILLBURN, NJ — In an email update yesterday afternoon, Millburn Mayor Jackie Leiberberg announced the death of another township resident from COVID-19

Good afternoon Millburn Township Residents—This is Mayor, Jackie Benjamin Lieberberg and today is Friday, April 17th.
  
There are currently 103 confirmed patients with COVID 19 in Millburn Township.  With many having recovered, we are deeply saddened to report the loss of another resident.  Essex County is reporting 9,656 patients throughout the county.

As many of you are aware, Governor Murphy has issued an extension to school closures through May 15th.  Now more than ever, please continue to practice social distancing protocols for yourself, your families and our community. 

The Township has begun a new virtual initiative starting next week that highlights our community spirit.  Please be sure to join us beginning April 20th, for a variety of daily activities. We are all in this together #MillburnStrong.  Engage your inner creative self. 

Our residents continue to do exceptional good work to enhance the safety of our community.  Carisa Reilly and her team have made more than 1,000 masks and over 100 scrub caps for local first responders, hospitals, medical facilities and essential workers.  They continue to produce and distribute to these groups.  If residents are interested in volunteering or donating please reach out to her directly do so by emailing themasklady2020@gmail.com

For those seeking assistance with short term emergency needs due to a financial setbacks, you can find out more and apply via www.downtheblock.org.  For those willing to help support your neighbors in this time of crisis, you can go through Down the Block. All inquiries regarding support services are confidential.   Given the current economic climate, now more than ever, donations are very much needed to continue their support for our community. We know that they have received some initial inquiries and donations, so please continue to support this vital community based non-profit where you are able. 

We are also so very grateful that the Millburn Free Public Library continues to supply virtual programing for our residents.  A new addition to the digital library is called “Story Time Shorts”, which highlights short videos from the library’s Children Services department reading stories.  They are also posting for National Poetry Month, where staff members are reading favorite poems.  Be sure to check out all the Library has to offer.  http://millburnlibrary.org/
