Before the teen in Carteret died, Mayor Dan Reiman had asked on social media for the community to join him in “praying for David and his family.”
Around 7:12 p.m. the teen and another fell through the ice. One teen was able to rescue himself, and emergency service personnel made several unsuccessful attempts to rescue the other teen before water rescue crews were able to remove him from the water and transport him to the hospital.
