Essex County Installs Historical Markers at Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange – TAPinto.net
WEST ORANGE, NJ — Two new colorful historical markers were recently installed inside the Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange that bring to life some of the early history of the park known generations ago with eye-catching detail.
They markers, which were placed side by side alongside the road near the entrance, highlight the days of the long-gone Eagle Rock resort and the widely forgotten Eagle Rock Hill Climb (auto race) whose finish line was near this location.
Archivist Kathy Kauhl of the Essex County Parks Department spearheaded the effort that began last year with the securing of a grant and aided in the design of the completed project. In addition to supplying the images seen above, West Orange Township Historian Joseph Fagan provided valuable assistance in research and writing for the markers.
