With the end of Daylight Saving Time, the number of daylight hours will decrease gradually each day until the Winter Solstice on  Saturday, December 21.

According to Calendarpedia, in the Northern Hemisphere the day of the winter solstice is the shortest day of the year (the day with the least daylight and the longest night) and occurs every year between December 20 and December 23.

According to the NJ Division of Fire Safety, the batteries in carbon monoxide and smoke detectors should be replaced when clocks are changed. Devices more than 10 years old should be replaced.
