ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – Are you looking to shred that box of old mail sitting in your basement?
What about those used tires sitting in your garage?
The Essex County Department of Public Works will host a paper shredding and used tire recycling day on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Essex County Public Works Department building, 99 West Bradford Ave., Cedar Grove.
People can bring paper, rubber tires with or without metal rims, household hazardous waste, old computers and electronic equipment to be recycled. The tires will be delivered to a state-licensed transfer waste facility that will then recycle them, county officials said in a press release.
There is no limit on the amount of paper that people can bring to the event to have shredded, and the shredded paper will be recycled. Plastic sheets and covers and metal binders must be removed from the paper before it’s shredded. Photo negatives and film will not be accepted. Paper clips and staples do not have to be removed.
“Our Paper Shredding Day enables residents to protect their personal information by destroying old documents safely and securely, with the paper being recycled, while our Used Tire Recycling Day allows unwanted tires to be disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner,” said Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. in the press release.
The Essex County Paper Shredding Day and the Used Tire Recycling Day are for Essex County residents only.
Residents are not charged when they bring materials, but they must provide proof of residency at the site. Commercial businesses may not drop off materials.
