ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The following news release comes courtesy of the Essex County Branch of the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom. Learn more about posting announcements or events to your local Patch site.

The Essex County Branch of the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom starts its 2019-2020 season with a meet & greet on Wednesday, September 18 at the Montclair Cooperative School located at 65 Chestnut Street in Montclair.

The meeting is in the School’s Annex Building adjacent to the main building from 7:30 to 9 pm. The entrance to the Annex Building and parking is on Forest Street. Light refreshments will be served, and there will be time to socialize and for conversation. We invite you to come and learn more about the League, the constructive ways we deal with current challenges, our optimistic activism, and the wealth of resources from WILPF National available to members to combat unhealthy and destructive trends in our society. Come learn about the history of The League and all the actions we have planned for the coming program year, including a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote in 2020. Come spend some time with like-minded people and put your talents into making our world a better place.

Our first sponsored event of the year is an interactive program for children 5 through 8 on UN International Peace Day Saturday September 21 from 2 to 4 pm in the Youth Library on the 3rd Floor of the Montclair Library on South Fullerton Avenue. The program’s goals are to develop the concept of peace and the conditions in which it can flourish. There will be story-telling, music, arts & crafts, and time for discussion. You are welcome to drop you children off for the 2 hours or stay with them. (Note if dropping them off, you will be asked to provide a number where you can be reached in the event of any emergency.) It’s never too early to get children thinking about peace!
