Belleville Special Ed. Expert Is Essex County Teacher Of Year – Belleville, NJ Patch
BELLEVILLE, NJ — A Belleville special education expert earned a nod as Essex County’s “Teacher of the Year” from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).
The NJDOE announced the 21 county winners of the Governor’s Educator of the Year Program for the 2019-20 school year on Wednesday, giving Yanelis Cabaleiro-Rempusheski of the Belleville Public School District the award in Essex County.
According to the NJDOE, Cabaleiro-Rempusheski teaches at School #3 at the pre-K level.
“It is with great pride that I recognize these highly skilled, compassionate and dedicated County Teachers of the Year,” Gov. Phil Murphy said of the 21 county awardees. “These teachers reflect the exemplary quality of educational leadership that we see throughout our state.”
NJDOE officials provided the following biography info for Cabaleiro-Rempusheski:
“Yanelis Cabaleiro-Rempusheski earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education and graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hall University. As a lifelong learner, she furthered her education and earned a master’s degree in education from Ashford University and recently completed a graduate program for a school supervisor certification from Georgian Court University. The skills acquired from her education and professional experiences allow her to continually raise the bar for her and those around her.”
The NJDOE also praised Cabaleiro-Rempusheski’s work in the field of special education:
“Over 85 percent of the students she’s taught over the past six years have graduated the full-day preschool program for children with disabilities and was placed in a more inclusive setting with a less restrictive environment. Her influence in the school community and dedication to her students extends far beyond the classroom where she has applied for grants and fundraising to assure her students have the most effective materials possible. Through her fundraising efforts for the 2018-19 school year, her applied behavioral analysis classroom has been equipped with over $1,200 of sensory toys to help students’ needs. Her professional associations, paired with her passion for serving the autistic population, has led to Belleville School District being the first corporate sponsor at the North Jersey Walk for Autism sponsored by Autism Speaks, Inc. since they raised over $35,000 in the past five years. She is thankful to have the opportunity to make such an impact on every one of her students’ lives.”
The state winner of the Teacher of the Year award is expected to be announced at the New Jersey Board of Education’s October meeting.
