The 10th Anniversary Montclair Jazz Festival is Saturday! The Family Jazz Discovery Zone is a special place where kids and their families can gather to play, improvise, create, make new friends and, of course, share the passion for jazz! Barnes & Noble Clifton Commons (395 Route 3 East, Clifton) will host Storytime and Activities Dear Girl, and Dear Boy, on Saturday at 11:00 AM. These lovely books are a reminder that everyone holds a valuable place in the world. Also, receive a coupon from the Café for a grilled cheese sandwich with milk or juice for $4.

At 2:00 PM on Saturday, Barnes & Noble Clifton Commons (395 Route 3 East, Clifton) will host Kids’ Book Hangout. Discover your next favorite book and enjoy games, activities, and giveaways.

Westfield Garden State Plaza will host Mad Science & Crayola Wild World Camp events every Saturday through August 31st from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The events are free. A $10 VIP Package is available that includes a Make & Take art project, 1 complimentary AMC Theatres children ticket, and a LEGO toy and exclusive retailer offers. This week’s event is Incredible Ice Show. Polar bears are amazing animals that face many threats to their survival. Imagine what life is like for them in the Artic. Sculpt polar bears on an ice floe using clay. Then mix paints and mixing mediums to create the effects of fur and ice. RSVP online.

Fosterfields Living Historical Farm (73 Kahdena Road, Morris Twp) will host Hitch a Ride! on Saturday from 10:15 AM to 12:00 PM. Enjoy a leisurely narrated, open-air wagon ride around the historic farm. Cost is $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child age 4-16, $2 per child age 2-3, and free for children under 2.

Historic Speedwell (333 Speedwell Avenue, Morristown) will host Speedwell Goes… Antebellum (1840’s) from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Explore the hidden histories of Stephen Vail, former owner and resident of Historic Speedwell. Taste food prepared on the hearth, try-on period fashion, and learn facts about the past. The Growing Stage will preset Concert in the Park on Saturday at DiRenzo Children’s Park (32 Dell Avenue, Netcong) at 1:00 PM. The concert will feature Grammy-nominated Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could. There will also be face painting, prizes, a very special monarch butterfly release and more! Suggested donation is $5 at admission. RSVP online.

Story Pirates will present their Flagship Show on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street, NYC). Stories by children from NYC and beyond will be brought to life and staged by the Story Pirates’ professional improvisational and comedic actors – replete with music, costumes and sets. During these shows, the NYC Story Pirates cast will take story ideas from the audience and turn them into hilarious musical sketch comedy. Tickets are $37.

On Saturday and Sunday (and the rest of the week too until October!), Frelinghuysen Arboretum (353 Hanover Avenue, Morris Twp) will host a Family Photo Scavenger Hunt from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Grab a camera or phone and stop by the Haggerty Education Center for a nature photo scavenger hunt. Visitors can pick up the list, head outside and shoot away.  Cost is $10 per family at the door.

On Sunday, Barnes & Noble Clifton Commons (395 Route 3 East, Clifton) will host Baby & Me Storytime Featuring ABCs of Engineering. This event is for and children 0-24 months old and their caregivers. A book will be read, and attendees will be invited to participate in activities featuring sensory growth for the little ones. Plus, get a free Starbucks tall coffee (hot or iced).

Essex County Turtle Back Zoo will host Nature Adventurers Family Nature Club on Sunday at the Locust Grove Parking Lot (Glen Avenue and Lackawanna Place, Millburn). Play and learn together in nature as a family with TBZ’s new nature club, Nature Adventurers. Worried you or your kids don’t spend enough time outside or together? Harness the power of gaming to get up and moving while exploring and learning about local nature and conservation. There’s something for everybody – teens and adults are invited and encouraged to join in the fun, not just little ones. Tickets are $10-$20 and can be purchased online.

Enjoy a Morning Bird Walk at Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area (472 Boonton Avenue, Montville Twp.) on Sunday from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Create your own binoculars, take to the trails, and listen and look for feathered friends. Find live and artificial birds that are hidden along the way. This activity is for ages 4 and up. Also on Sunday, Fosterfields Living Historical Farm (73 Kahdena Road, Morris Twp.) will host Are You Stronger Than a Steer? from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Visit the 3-sided barn to learn how animals power farm equipment and try operating the equipment by hand. Cost is $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child age 4-16, $2 per child age 2-3, and free for children under 2.

At Cooper Gristmill (66 Route 24, Chester), enjoy Sail, Sail Your Boat on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Decorate toy boats and sail them in the tailrace. Children must be accompanied by an adult and wear close-toed shoes – no bare feet! Boats may be purchased for $10, borrowed, or you may bring your own.

Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center (247 Southern Blvd, Chatham) will host Awesome Animal Artists for children ages 5-9 on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Budding young artists learn about a new native NJ animal each month with indoor and outdoor activities. Create a masterpiece to take home. Adults are welcome to stay and participate. The Rubin Museum (150 West 17th Street, NYC) will host August Family Sundays: Spinning Spirals on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Just as a prayer wheel sends intentions into the world, this spiraling wind wheel will harness the air to sprinkle your thoughts, intentions, and reminder of what is important to you throughout your home. Discover more with The Power of Intention: Reinventing the (Prayer) Wheel, an exhibition which explores the power of releasing your wishes into the world. Sundays are for families! Bring your family to the Rubin Museum for a Sunday afternoon of activities both kids and grownups will enjoy. Drop into the Education Center for some art making and enjoy the 2:00 PM family exhibition tour. These events are free.

The New Jersey State Fair wraps up this Sunday at the Sussex County Fairgrounds (37 Plains Road, Augusta). The fair will feature carnival rides, a demolition derby, monster truck show and more.
