Karate school leader charged with sexually assaulting child student – NJ.com
The owner operator of karate school was arrested and charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting a child martial arts student.
Edilberto “Eddie” Torres, of East Orange, is charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said in a news statement.
Stephens, 56, runs Kokusai Karate Dojo in Bloomfield, Stephens said. The dojo’s website lists him as shihan (a master instructor) and says the dojo offers martial arts classes for toddlers, kids, teens and adults.
The student told Bloomfield police that Torres was making inappropriate physical contact.
He was scheduled to make a first appearance in Superior Court in Essex County on Wednesday.
