N.J. salon owner used secret cameras to spy on customers in tanning beds, police say – NJ.com
The owner of a Nutley tanning salon owner was arrested after he was caught using a secret cameras to spy on patrons while they undressed and used tanning beds, authorities alleged Thursday.
Martino Poli, 38, of Stanhope, was arrested Wednesday after police searched Sun of a Beach salon at on Franklin Avenue and found multiple cameras, along with cocaine and marijuana, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
“The investigation was started when a female customer of the salon reported that she noticed what she believed to be a camera lens recording her surreptitiously while she was in a tanning bed,” the prosecutor’s office said.
Poli is charged with invasion of privacy, endangering the welfare of a child and drug possession. He was being held in the Essex County jail Thursday awaiting a Superior Court detention hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, the office said.
No one answered the phone at the salon Thursday. Its website features numerous photos of teenagers tanned for recent proms.
